  • Common Dental Emergencies

    • Toothaches: Toothaches can range from mild to severe discomfort and indicate tooth decay or infection. Symptoms include pain and sensitivity when you bite, swelling of the gums, and sensitivity to changes in temperature. To relieve pain and avoid complications, it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible from Dr. Huh.
    • Broken Teeth: Broken teeth can be caused by trauma, untreated cavities, or other factors. They can cause pain, sensitivity, and difficulty chewing. Our experienced dentists, Dr. Huh, and Dr. Holland, must provide immediate care to restore the tooth's appearance and function.
    • Knocked-Out Teeth: Knocked-out teeth need immediate attention to improve the chance of a successful re-implantation. Before seeking emergency dental treatment at Greenway Village Dental, patients should try to re-insert the tooth if possible or store it in saliva or milk.
    • Dental Abscesses: Dental abscesses are characterized by swelling, severe pain, and pus. They require immediate treatment in order to avoid further complications. Dr. Huh and Dr. Holland will provide you with timely care to drain the infection and ensure your oral health.
  • What to do in a Dental Emergency

    • Toothaches: Rinse the mouth with warm, lukewarm water to remove any food particles that may be causing irritation. Gently floss to remove food particles that could be irritating. Aspirin and painkillers should not be placed directly on gums as they can damage the tissue. Take pain relievers as prescribed by the manufacturer to provide temporary relief. To address the root cause of your toothache, contact Greenway Village Dental immediately to schedule an appointment with Dr. Huh.
    • Broken Teeth: Rinse the mouth with warm, lukewarm water to clean any broken teeth. Use a cold compress outside your mouth to relieve pain and reduce swelling. Cover any sharp edges with dental wax, sugarless gum, or dental tape to avoid cuts on the tongue and cheeks. Do not chew on the broken tooth. Seek immediate dental care with Dr. Huh and Dr. Holland for an assessment of the damage and to determine the appropriate treatment.
    • Knocked-Out Teeth: Handle the tooth carefully by its crown (top). Avoid touching the roots. Gently rinse the tooth with water. Do not scrub it or remove any tissue fragments. Try to reinsert it into the socket. Make sure it's facing the correct direction and gently bite down on a piece of gauze or a cloth. If it is impossible to re-insert the tooth, you can store it in milk, a saline or saliva solution, and immediately seek emergency dental treatment from Dr. Huh at Greenway Village Dental. It is important to act quickly if you want to save a knocked-out tooth.
    • Dental Abscesses: If you suspect a dental infection, rinse your mouth with warm water and salt to reduce swelling and draw out pus. As directed, pain relievers can be taken to ease discomfort. Applying heat to the outer part of your face can cause swelling. Dr. Huh and Dr. Holland of Greenway Village Dental can drain the abscess and provide appropriate treatment for the underlying infection.
  • Preparation and Prevention

    • Preventing dental emergencies begins with maintaining good oral hygiene. By brushing and flossing at least twice daily and having regular dental checkups at Greenway Village Dental with Dr. Huh and Dr. Holland, you can identify potential problems and take action before they become emergencies. Adopting a healthy diet low in acidic and sugary foods will also help improve your oral health.

    • Preparing for dental emergencies, in addition to proactive oral health care, is important. You can create a dental kit at home that includes items like sterile gauze, a small container or container with a cover, and over-the-counter pain relief medications. This kit is useful for minor dental emergencies and can provide temporary relief until Dr. Huh or Holland arrives.

    • You can reduce the likelihood of dental emergencies by following these precautions and keeping a dental kit on hand. This will also help you to be ready for an emergency. Trust Greenway Village Dental's team of dedicated dentists to deliver prompt, expert care when you need it the most.

Common Dental Emergencies:

FAQs about Emergency Dentistry

Q: What is a dental emergency?

A: Dental emergencies include severe toothaches and other dental problems, such as abscesses in the mouth, missing fillings, crowns or fillings, or injuries to the jaw or mouth. It is important to seek dental care immediately if you experience severe pain, swelling, or bleeding in your mouth.

Q: I have a dental problem. Should I go to an emergency room or see a dentist?

A: It's important to visit a dentist for a dental emergency involving severe trauma. Dentists like Dr. Huh and Dr. Holland from Greenway Village Dental are trained to deal with various dental emergencies. They can also provide comprehensive treatment for the underlying problem. If you feel there are circumstances that you feel put your life at danger you should call 911 and seek medical attention.

Q: What do I do if a tooth is knocked out?

A: When a tooth has been knocked out, you should handle it gently by the crown and not the root. Rinse it gently with water and try to re-insert the tooth into the socket if you can. You can also store the tooth in saliva, milk, or a tooth preserver kit. For the best chance to save the tooth, seek emergency dental care as soon as possible.

Q: How can I manage my dental pain before visiting a dentist at home?

A: Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are pain relievers that can be purchased over the counter. They will help to alleviate dental discomfort temporarily. A cold compress applied to the outside part of the mouth will also help reduce swelling. Visiting a dentist immediately is important for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Q: Does insurance cover emergency dental care?

A: Most dental insurance policies cover emergency dental treatment, although coverage can vary depending on plan type and the nature of the emergency. Contact your insurance provider for more information about your coverage, including any out-of-pocket expenses.

Q: What can I do to prevent dental emergencies?

A: Good oral hygiene habits such as brushing, flossing, and attending regular dental checkups can prevent dental emergencies. Wearing a mouthguard while participating in sports or other physical activity is also advisable. Avoiding chewing on hard items and not using your teeth as tools will also reduce the risk of injury and damage to your teeth.

"My experience at Greenway Village Dental was exceptional. They got me an appointment very quickly and had great customer service. They were very thorough and informative. The whole dental visit was wonderful."
